MERIDEN, CT (10-30-2014) - Over 250 invitees are expected to attend the dedication and blessing of the newly constructed chapel for the Motherhouse Community on November 1st, the Solemnity of All Saints. Jean-Louis Pierre Cardinal Tauran, President of the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialog and the cardinal who announced the election of Pope Francis to the world, and the Most Reverend Leonard P. Blair, Archbishop of Hartford, will bless the new chapel. The new structure which will seat about 150 worshippers was designed by Don Hammerberg Associates of Farmington, Connecticut, and built by general contractor Sullivan Brothers of Wolcott, Connecticut.
The Sisters had far outgrown their chapel at Paul VI Center. With more women entering the Community, the seating was limited and a much larger space was needed. While visiting the Sisters in 2009, Cardinal Tauran suggested that they begin to plan for a new chapel and he offered to make the first donation. The entire project is being funded by donations.
